(she/her)

Artist, curator,
political educator

Magistra Artium Free University Berlin / Humboldt-University Berlin

Scientific field: Political philosophy/theory and contemporary artistic strategies

Dissertation project, research focus: Ethics, body & political contemporary art (paused)

Artistic practice: Transmedial (space) installation, object art and performance art

In her artistic and scientific work, Melanie Nazmy explores the vulnerability of the body of the 21st century and political emotions.

As artist, curator and political image maker she thereby connects socio-political contemporary art with political theory, ethics and political philosophy.

How can cooperation that creates a sense of community succeed in the mirror of contemporary artistic attitudes? If art is not a means but an independently co-constituting factor - what perspectives does it open under this presupposition on the challenges and potentials of the globalized world as a community of responsibility? With these questions in mind, Melanie Nazmy explores and plays with fields of action in civil society in changing contexts and with different artistic and theoretical strategies. Her focus is on a differentiated definition of the political in contemporary arts.

Melanie Nazmy lives and works in Berlin.
